Good-Bye

This is a very colorful picture of strawberry shortcake and it says bye-bye, see you later
I would like to say good-bye to everyone who was associated with me in this class. To Ms. Averitt and Dr. Strange, thank you for the experience. To my classmates, thank you all for making this semester a fun and comfortable one. See you later!!!

Final Blog

It is a picture of the broadview and it is black and grey; dark colors
Blogs--Before I enrolled in this class, I had no idea of what a blog was. At first, I thought that blogs were just for personal reasons, but I have learned how blogs can be very effective and helpful throughout the classroom.

Presentations--Both of the presentations were outstanding. During the personal presentation, I feel that i actually opened up a little about myself because usually I am a very private person. The group presentation was fun. I two of the most crazy and fun people to do it with. It was a good shared experience.

Google Docs--We really didn't deal with Google Docs much, so there isn't much to say here.

Podcasts/Videocasts--At first I didn't like podcasts very much. But I have realized that podcasts can be very beneficial. It can be less work for the student and the teacher. For an example, if a student misses class, they won't have to worry about asking the teacher what assignment they missed and can he/she repeat it, they can just listen to the podcast/videocast.

Post you read-- I have learned too much from all of the videos and posts that we had to read. I now have a full insight on technology in the classroom. Those posts really help you to understand technology in the classroom, if you are one that doesn't like to use technology in the classroom.

Personal Learning Network(PLN)-- It was very fun creating a personal learning network. It kind of brings you out of your norm because you are allowed to network with anyone anywhere. it shows you that there are plenty of people that share the same interests as you do.

Comment4Kids--I enjoyed reading the kids' blogs. It's amazing that kids are knowing how to blog so early. It was my job to offer them some feedback and that was important to me. I enjoyed giving the kids feedback on their assignments.

iTunes/iTunes U--I knew what iTunes was, but I had no idea what iTunes U was. I learned that iTunes U is a lot of Universities giving free, yet valuable information online. iTunes U can also be helpful, especially for those attending Universities.

Accessibility--It was fun and interesting learning hoe to make the pictures accessible for the disabled. I tried my best to describe the pictures as best as I could in order for the disabled to get the full effect also.

Google earth--Although Google Earth was cancelled, It was fun playing around on it when we had spare time.

ACCESS/ALEX-- These provided web links, lesson plans, workspace, etc. These two web pages allowed you to become a better educator. There is very good information on these pages that can help educate anyone who is willing to be educated.

Foliotek--This semester was the first time ever that I had even heard of foliotek. I had absolutely no idea on what it was. Foliotek was a little difficult to use at first, but now that I know how to use it, it's a pretty cool place to upload your papers. It's very professional and I like it.

I have learned too many new things from EDM 310 Microcomputing class. Some of the things that I thought I wouldn't use, I think I will be using. This was an overall wonderful experience for me.

2. Are things you would like to have learned in this class but did not?
Considering the fact that I didn't know anything about most of the things that I have learned, there isn't much more that I would like to learn about except for the things that were part of the assignments that got cancelled.

3.Are their things you learned in this class but wish you had not?
Not really.

4.Did the class excite you in anyway?
One assignment for sure excited me and that was skype. I really got excited when I was in process of using it. That was awesome.

5.Did you find anything in this class to be particularly intellectually challenging?
Not really. The only thing challenging to me was making sure that all of the assignments were turned in on time because there were quite a few of them.

6.Were you bored by this class at any time? If so, what bored you and how might that be corrected?
Sometimes. When certain people would miss the class, then on the next class meet we would have to spend like an hour going over the same things that we went over the week before. I can understand that though because if it were me, I would want to know. It's just the fact of sitting there going back through it detail by detail.

7.Would you change this course in any way?
I wouldn't change it in any way negatively, only add to it. I would add whatever else that is technology new out or anything that you feel that most people may be interested in knowing.

8.Are you Technologically Literate at the moment? To what extent?
I would say that I am. I am not at a genius level, but I believe that I am at a good/nice level for technology literate. I know that I am way more literate than I was when I first walked through the classroom doors.

9.How will you maintain or improve your technological literacy between now and the time you graduate ….. to the time you start teaching?
The only way that I will be able to maintain or improve my literacy is to continue using technological materials. When new material develop, try to learn about it, rather than having the mind set of "whatever, it's too technical."

Seven Stupid Mistakes and 7 Brilliant Things Teachers Do With Technology

This is a pic of a computer with more technology, can't really tell what it is
Stupid Mistakes
Number 1---Backing up data is the one that I chose to be the most stupid mistake. It should be an automatic thing to back up your data on a hard drive if you are using technology. Saving it on the computer is a fine idea, but also save it to a jump drive just in case your computer crashes or malfunction in other ways.

Number 7---Thinking that technology in schools will go away. Technology is the hottest thing that is out right now. It is used everywhere...in schools, banks, businesses, etc. Technology isn't going anywhere, if anything, it will be increased in many different ways.

Brilliant Things Teachers
Number 2---Creatively find and use resources is one of the two I chose to be brilliant with technology. Some things that you may look for in libraries may not be up to date resources. It is much easier to log onto the Internet and get very quick and easy sources for anything that you can think of. More creative stuff is posted online along with the information that you gather.

Number 3---Make conferencing real-time. I think that having an online grade book, an email, etc. are important things to have as a teacher. This way if parents have any questions, they will always have easy excess to you to ask these questions. if they are wondering about the child's grade, there will be an online grade book that they will be able to view. Parent should get involved with their kids when it comes to school. It will have a positive result.

New Classroom Rules
Number 7---Use polite speech when speaking, blogging, texting, Twittering, instant messaging, etc. All students should be polite when speaking regardless of what type of communication it may be. It is more of a chance that you will receive help, if seeked, if you talk to a person in a respectful way. Although many people break this rule a lot, it is better to respect the person you are communicating with.

Number 15--- Know what you are supposed to be learning, why, and what you will do with the knowledge. This is important to me because I believe that students should know all three of these W's. You have to know what you are learning in order to learn it; why you are learning enhances your knowledge even more, whether you will use it or not; knowing what you will do with it in the future is important because you just may need to be knowledgeable of what you are learning, in the future.

At The Teacher's Desk

A picture of a teacher's desk with an apple on it and addition problem written on the chalkboard in the background

Teachers 2.0 by Jarrod Lamshed, expresses the need for teachers to keep learning. I agree that teachers must be learners. By teachers learning new things and different strategies, can help our students become more educated or above average. It is very crucial that teachers learn as well as the students because if the teacher doesn't learn, then he/she can't teach what he/she does not know.
Another one is Tuesdays with Morrie/Teacher Movies, written by John Lamshed. The blogger writes that deep down we all as in teachers love a good teacher movie. The ones that were listed, I haven't seen. Although, I am sure that any teacher movie can be helpful and very beneficial.
The collaborative professional blog is resourceful for teachers. This blog allows teachers to vent about the current issues facing education, issues going on with their own class and material that may be of use to others.
The blog titled"Something That Matters", by Wm Chamberlain caught my eye. There is a picture that says,"I wanna do something that matters". Mr. Chamberlain asked the question, "Is the drive for money the reason that keeps students from doing something that matters".I think that most students will say that that is the reason, but I'm not so sure that I agree with that.

Toward a New Future of Whatever by Michael Wesch

this is a pic of a laptop and a webcam, there is also a white hand in the pic holding up a cell phone
I think that this video covered a lot and taught a lot. It brought the viewers' attention to some stuff that they probably didn't think really mattered with this new media. It talks about plenty of media and how it is having an effect on the way that we communicate. It is so many ways to communicate now that it is keeping a lot of people from focusing on whatever it is that they are suppose to be focusing on. There are blogging, texting, emailing, skype, webcam, etc. Texting to me, is like the worst of it all simply because many people are texting while they should be paying more attention to something that may be more important at the time.
Also, I know that I have experienced where through text, email, or anything like that, it's easier for people to talk to you any way that they feel. I know for sure that if I was there face to face with them, that it wouldn't be that easy for them to do that. The media is now becoming a communicating tool, whether it is hurting a person or helping them. When you communicate with any of the technology, it should be in respectful manner, especially if kids or students are involved, but some aren't like that.

This is a picture of some red pum pums, parade type things, etc
The student that I commented on was Sydney W. She talked about how fun homecoming day was/is. They have parades, the band plays music, attend a pep rally, etc. This is such a coincidence because I can recall doing something similar to this when I was in high school. Homecoming is a fun day especially if you participate in a lot of the activities. The night gets even better when your team wins the homecoming game to please themselves and the fans. I can definitely relate to her excitement.

Examples Which I Have Encountered

Different signs of blog, skype, podcast, and powerpoint

It is important for students to post their work to blogs because that is the only way that you will get the credit for doing the assignments assigned in this classroom. I real reason is so that you can learn how to use blogs and technology, since it's becoming a big deal in the classrooms now. I also encountered skype in this classroom. Before hand I never knew what skype was until now. Students and teachers may also use this tool to communicate, but mostly people that live long distances use it to keep in contact. Another tool was podcast. I particularly don't care for podcast because if the speakers are talking about something that's boring I will easily get off track, but I do know how to use and make a podcast. I also had to do a presentation which required the use of PowerPoint. I been knew how to use some of the features on power point, but I learned more because I used a little more effects, colors, etc.

ALEX and ACCESS

It is a picture of a book with rainbow colors all over it
ALEX---Alabama Learning Exchange, has tabs that are telling about the courses of study, web links, lesson plans, personal workspace, professional learning and podcast treasury.I clicked the Health/Physical Ed tab and a list of links going from k-12 gave tools, games and a variety of info to help/show me how to get my students ready for true physical education. It helps to show that physical education isn't just a class that's taken or known as a place of recess. It's the class of being or getting physically fit.
I believe that ALEX is a good source to use simply because you can have and view almost everything you need to at one web link. Some teachers may not be very organized or have the time to keep up with certain things, this is what they need to be introduced to. This will be a good source to be able to use in the classrooms.

ACCESS---Alabama Connecting Classrooms,Educators, and Students Statewide, provides classroom courses and teachers via technology. The Alabama ACCESS Distance Learning Initiative was launched on November 1, 2004.The goal of the distance learning plan is to create equity through additional educational offerings for all Alabama public high school students. ACCESS is available to all Alabama public high school students.
There are many teachers that have been in the e-learning course just for this.It has an even bigger future ahead.

It's a picture of a brown something with black sunglasses on smiling with bright white teeth

I have read Gagwhi's blog post on woodtech.edublogs.org His post only said that I'm really cool. So I told him that I'm cool too and what were my interests and I also gave him a few words of wisdom. It's kind of hard to write a good paragraph about him because he didn't say much, but he did receive good feed back.

This is a picture of a black pen sayin we love blog in white
I read a student's blog name Ty S. His blog was about having Doggie Day. It was very interesting idea. He was basically saying that we should walk around eating food, something like on Thanksgiving accept instead of eating off the plate, you eat of of each other. It was funny.
The next student didn't leave a name, but his idea was IALADD---International Act Like A Dork Day. This reminds me of a day that we had in high school. It was our homecoming week and dressing up as anything you wanted was an option and dressing as a nerd was the top; so I know how exciting this can be!!
The next student was Brandon K. His topic was Burp Like A Animal Day. He and his friends like burping so they decided to spread it on. This holiday is on May 1 and on this day the stores have to give out free sodas and the teachers have to allow their students to have sodas and burp all day.
The next student was Zach S. His blog was titled OPPS. It was Act Like You Have Muscle Spasm Day. It started when some guys were at a party and they spilled pop on each other. On this day, the president, mayor, parents, and teachers have to participate. This will be funny to see.
The last student was Jacob M. He started International dance like hippi day. This came from a boy riding by and saw a man with a big afro. He thought of hip-hop when she saw this. I would've never thought of this. I bet it was a hilarious site, I actually wish I would've been there.

Dear Kaia

a little girl squatting in a green dress looking at the ground with her camera
Classes made comments by using a video so that Kaia can here them because she's not a very strong reader yet. Kaia also loves pictures so the classes also posted some of them as well. In the first video, the students told Kaia how much they liked what they seen from her. It seems to be one of the best creations and an idea that might keep some schools open. In the next video Kaia posted pictures and told about them. This is wonderful for a three year old to be using technology already. I was surprised to hear that the students got Kaia's father to communicate on skype. Kaia feels that anything can be beautiful if you look at it the right way especially pictures. I was surprised to see this especially from a three year old.

Personal Learning Network

this picture consists of 3 people all dressed in all black business suits there are 2 men and 1 lady there is a mixed lady on the end, a black man in the middle and a white man on the end
As an assignment, I had to create a PLN--Personal Learning Network. Personal Learning Networks are usually done online, but maybe they could also be done differently. I only have five people in my Personal Learning Network. The topics that we discussed were technology in the classrooms whether they were old or new. I found out a lot of interesting things when we discussed the technology that they are/were using in their classrooms.

The first person that I communicated with was from facebook. Her name is Crystal Womack and she is a junior in college. We talked about how blogging can have an effect on education. She says that her fellow classmates, including her, have to also blog with their teacher/professor. It is said that her teacher/professor can easily get in contact with them about an assignment or anything pertaining to class. Crystal doesn't like the idea of doing blogs because she doesn't always have access to the internet, so it makes it kind of difficult for her to blog.
http://www.facebook.com/

The next person that I communicated with is Elzora Howell. She is the secretary to the superintendent of Sumter County Board of Education. She says that the students that attend their high school doesn't yet use webcam, but they are attempting to get the equipment for it. They want to show their students that there are more ways to communicate than just text, email, phone, etc. and show them that you can have a conversation with your peer and see them at the same time no matter where they are located at the time.

The third person Dorthy Cooly. She was a high school teacher at Blount High School. She said that technology has really emerged since she was a teacher. She said that When she was teaching the only technology that they really used was an over-head-projector. They used overhead slides to give their students notes and information. Now and days, society just uses PowerPoint, which is very effective in the classroom. Mrs. Cooly said that PowerPoint is much easier and less time consuming than using an over-head projector. She has been updated on the technology that is now being used in the classrooms.

Speaking of PowerPoint, the next person that is in my PLN is Marcus West. He is a science teacher at a community college. he loves to use PowerPoint and is basically a whiz when it comes to using it. He knows how to put all of the graphics, musics, fonts, spins, etc. on his presentation when presenting to his class. He likes for his students to use google often to get information for their homework. He feels that google is an honest site, depending on what you are looking for. He isn't very detailed with google, like Dr.Strange, but he likes for his students to have knowledge of it.

Rebecca Davis was the last person in my PLN that I came in contact with. She is a nursing major at Troy University. She says that they have to view footage that are posted on YouTube for class. Having the access to YouTube is somewhat mandatory for them. The videos show them the hands on work of being a nurse. It educates them on how to give shot or anything of that nature. So instead of looking in the book at demonstration, they can actually watch it being don hands on at anytime on YouTube. I never thought that a teacher/professor would be able to comply the technology of using YouTube as an educational source for a full semester, but they obviously do. YouTube is carried throughout the semester so that the students are educated in their major and get educated in viewing uploads and learn how to upload from this uploading source.

The New Media Literacies by the NML Staff

Personally I don't like the fact of all of the technology use. I think in the 21st century that some of these skills we will need if that's when the world is turning to technology.I possess quite a few of these skills. I can try to help others with the ones that I possess and maybe we can help each other out on the ones that neither of us possess.
I have found out that one of the skills that you will need is judgment--being able to decide if the information that you find on the internet is reliable. Negotiation--meaning knowing how to enter into different groups and knowing how to understand what the different norms are. Appropriation--how do I remix and sample content in a meaningful way. Play which is the capacity to experiment with surroundings as a form of problem solving. Transmedia Navigation, performance, distributed cognition, and the list goes on.
For those that are not technological literate, this will be like a second job. First you will have to learn how to use it then start to use it on a regular basis. All of this stuff to me is kind of stressing. Maybe the reason being is because it's new, it's the next generation. Most people will need to learn at least a certain percentage of how to use this form of technology.

The Networked Student by Wendy Drexler

I'm not sure if I'm prepared to teach a networked student because I first have to get use to teaching period. Pretty soon with all of this technology equipment, students will no longer need teachers, they will be able to be taught by a computer. Technology seems to be taking the world by storm and some people could be in danger of losing their jobs because of it.
The teacher teaches him how to use the network and take advantage of learning opportunities. She offers guidance when he gets stuck, shows him how to communicate properly and ask respectively for help from experts, shows him how to differentiate from good behavior and propaganda, how to vet a resource, etc. The teacher really won't be teaching, it's more a having a helpful partner. At least it's not my perception of teaching.

This Is How We Dream Parts 1 and 2

The picture has a lot of variety of technology devices
Multimedia is a good source to have, but keeping the books, paper, pens, pencils, etc. I think is important. At any time a computer can go out or maybe the page that you need to watch is down, then what's next? I don't think it is a good idea to make everything multimedia just because of what you think can happen, especially without considering the gray area of the whole thing.
I think that the listening/watching culture is alright for people who learn better by just watching and listening. But what about the ones that understand it better if they can read it and then write it? I don't think that they should stop the reading/writing part because that's how it all started before all of this technology came about. With doing all of this, you have to consider the gray area, not just the black and white. Some people don't have access to the internet and some can't afford to have a computer or laptop. When considering this, how would they be able to listen and watch? With reading/writing, you have all the tools that you need.
I don't want to be redundant, but these paragraphs pretty much sums it up. I have nothing against multimedia, I just think that you have to be considerate of the people that are in school and wanna learn, but yet they can't afford some of this technological equipment. As a result, if they can't afford it, what do you expect them to do. I still don't think that multimedia should be like at the top of everything, like that's the main source because reading/writing will always be around even when this technology equipment fails you.

iPods

Duke University gave out iPods to each of its 1,620 incoming freshmen. These iPods are to be used mainly for academic purposes, but can also be used outside of the classroom. Students will be able to use the devices to download course content, recorded lectures, foreign language lessons, audio books and music from a special Duke website modeled after iTunes. The school will supply voice recorders for some classes, enabling students to record notes while working in the field.
It is said that the project has gained momentum throughout the year. More than 600 first-year students enrolled in at least one course that used iPods. Many of these courses were for music or a foreign language, and the students used their iPods to record or receive audio files. As students began experimenting with the devices, they also began using them for gathering field notes, conducting interviews, podcasting or audio blogging, as well as for portable hard drives or as signal generators in an engineering class. Duke University really has made the use of an iPod completely different from what most people would use them for. They have made it very effective in education, which is pretty cool to me.

iTunes University

I really don't think that iTunes will be very effective in my classroom. I'm not the type to use podcasts or videocasts, not saying that it won't be useful, but for my class, I don't think it will. It seems that iTunes are used a lot in many Ivy League Schools. You can download music, videos, dvds, etc. Some announcements can be made on podcasts or videocasts, but this year is my first year being introduced to the podcasts and videcasts and I'm not really into those so far.
In a way, it may be helpful because you can download educational resources free. iTunes do have copyright laws, so there is no fear there to upload anything for your students to see. Downloading iTunes is free of cost, so it's possible for it to be useful for education. The only thing with me is that I'm not a technology person because sometimes technology malfunctions and then you and your students will have a problem. Overall, I don't think that iTunes will be that effective in my classroom.

Dr. Christie’s site

This image has 6 yellow smily faces all making different shapes of faces going across the top horizontally. Going vertically are a paper with A+ on it along with a blue and red crayon, a green symbol sign, and a paint brush and board with bright colors on them
I think that the use of a rubric in the classroom can be very useful. Rubrics allow the students and the teachers to understand what's going on for an assignments; it explains it. Some rubrics are based on a 1-5 level with 5 being the highest. Then some are based on smiley faces, it just depends, but they all are forming the same purposes.
With this students have a guideline of the teacher's expectations and the teachers can easily evaluate the students' work. Also rubrics can be reused and used in many different ways. Having a rubric handy in a classroom can really help out, in my opinion.

"What I've Learned This Year" by Mr. McClung.

I haven't even received my certificate and I can already say that when I'm speaking into a crowd that my most concern is the delivery of my content. I like to make sure that my delivery is on point so that it doesn't seem like I don't know what I'm talking about. I feel that when I am in a classroom, it's my classroom, but I also want to be kind of lenient. Like I know that I am in control, but I don't want to come off as being bossy or very mean in such a way. Beating myself up over a lesson that didn't go perfect I don't think I will do simply because I think that you should learn from your mistakes. As Mr. Mclung mentioned, don't beat yourself up about it. Just find a way to fix it with a smile on your face. Just like me, when he first entered the classroom, he found himself being too concerned about the delivery of his content instead of checking for the student comprehension and that's something that I need to start working on now. He had some very good points in this article, but these two stood out to me the most. I really need to start working on some of the advice that he gave.

NPR blog on Wickipedia.

There is a green computer screen with 2 boys there, one with an orange shirt and one with a green shirt. All the colors are neon and the background is blue
I think that Wikipedia is a good site to go on if you are also going to use other references to back it up. When I was about in middle school, I always used Wikipedia, but ever since high school most of my teachers would rather me use a different source just because they felt that Wikipedia can't be trusted. As stated, some people do go in on this site and post false things. I think that Wikipedia can be trusted, just not fully trusted. Meaning, if you were planning on using Wikipedia for major research, I would recommend you to also use other references just to make sure that what's posted on Wikipedia is true.

Randy Pausch’s Last Lecture

This is a picture of a bronzed plaque with The Last Lecture written across the top in gold print With Randy Pausch's name written in gold print going across the bottom.
Randy Pausch has approximately 10 tumors in his liver. He says that he's not in denial, but he has a lot of doctors. He was given 3 to 6 months of good health. He is in good shape. As he tell us of his childhood, he actually had a good childhood. He was constantly dreaming. He had countless numbers of dreams. The fact that anything is possible was huge to him.
To accomplish some of these dreams he started off at school. He got his PHD, which he thought could get him a job anywhere. I have never heard of Imagineering until Randy introduced it. He was willing to do anything to have lunch with Jon Snoddy. He didn't want to seem too anxious, but he was determined. He published the first and last paper of Imagineering. Jon Snoddy helped him get to the right people so he could work on the paper and publish it.
Working on Aladdin VR is a once in 5 years career opportunity. He was introduced to real people and he learned how to put engineers and artists together. That's very important to me. You have to be introduced to the right people, which are real people that's willing to help you achieve.
I was surprised that his technology got used at the spider man 3 filming. After 10 years of enjoying what he loved doing, unfortunately he had to give it up. His advice is, if you have to give something up that you love doing, make sure that you hand it over to someone that is better than you, that can do the job, which is what he did. I believe that because if you are doing something that you love, you wouldn't want to give it to someone that you think will screw it up. Some companies agreed to hire their students by doing internships. It's becoming a global phenomenon for that University.

Fisch: Is It Okay to Be A Technologically Illiterate Teacher?

Technology s the new "big thing" out now. It's faster, computers are smarter, everything is just being done with technology now. Using technology can be difficult because some people are technology illiterate, including teachers. Many teachers may not know how to work computers that well, so what do they do? The first thing is obvious, they have to learn it, but I really don't see where it is REQUIRED, but I guess it is a wise thing to be technology educated.
Some teachers just may not feel comfortable with teaching students something that they're not even sure if they know how to use. I really think that teachers should know at least 40% of technology, but not the whole 100% because as long as your students are learning and comfortable with your teaching techniques, why switch it? Being technology literate takes time and it's very good to be literate when the world is using technology with everything, but when it comes to teaching, if you are not technology literate like people think you should be, then what's the issue. Why is that a problem?

"It's Not About the Technology" by Kelly Hines

Technology Can improve education, but it's the way you teach it. Like she said, if there's no one learning, then teaching isn't being done. Technology is obviously a new form of teaching, but some students are technology illiterate. So, now teachers will have to learn themselves how to use the technology before they can teach the students. Once they have learned, that's when they try to educate the students.
Even with all this technology, I still think that teaching without the use of technology is a good thing. You should always have something to back anything up. It seems as though society is becoming so dependent on technology and if shall one day stop, that's when society would be in trouble because they haven't taught students the original way prior to the use of technology.

Micheal Wesh: A Vision of Students Today

this picture has a person writing on a black chalkboard with white chalk. It is a black and white photo. http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&source=hp&q=chalkboard&rlz=1W1ADBF_en&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wi
First off, from seeing the first few seconds of the video, I must say that the classes that I go to are set up totally different from theirs. I have never actually been in a classroom that is set up like the one in the video, rather at Alabama State University or University of South Alabama. The classrooms are set up with desks like on the floor, aligned vertically and horizontally with the professor standing in front.

Some of the classes that I have had, I actually saw students bring their laptops to class. Most of the time when they do,about 95% of the time in class, they're not doing class work. In some classes I still experience having chalk boards though. I think that technology is playing a big role in the world, but maybe too much. Once people start counting on technology, they wont see the use of learning things by hand or the original way.

Plagiarism and Copyright Laws

Plagiarism can easily be done without intentions of being done. Something just as simple as giving a person their credit somewhere in your paper is plagiarism. You can avoid plagiarism by putting quotation marks where needed when making a statement or you may paraphrase. When paraphrasing you should put the complete thought in your own words rather than changing a few or switching them around because that is also considered plagiarism. Even when you use the Internet for information you should always post the website of where you got your information to let the reader know where you are getting your facts.
Copyright is protection of a person's creations. Most people have books, Cds, DVDs, etc. copyrighted so that other people won't be able to take credit for it. It's similar to plagiarism, but not exactly. Only the author or creator can claim copyrights. The very first creation of an object can be copyrighted not the remake of an object. Copyright makes sure that your creations are protected and if it is violated I think you can take the issue to court. Obviously because someone is stealing your ideas or property.

Web Accessibility

I guess it's true, you do learn something everyday. I didn't know that web accessibility was required by law. It's nice knowing that technology is for everybody even those with disabilities, it shows that there is no discriminating going on. And why shouldn't there be technology devices for them, they have the right to learn just as well as anybody else without disabilities.
The braille usage is so awesome, I would've never thought of it. They also have tools for speech. Some of the information is in different languages so that everybody is included and has the same opportunity. I really don't know what else to say, I'm sort of speechless because these tools are so amazing.

Eagle Nest Radio & Class Blog(3rd Grade Podcasts

First off I would like to say that these 3rd graders did an outstanding job by doing this podcast. I've learned that when doing a podcast that you may be very creative in using your own vocabulary, depending on what the topic is. I see that you must speak loudly so that your viewers can hear you, but not too loud where it loses it clarity.
Another learning experience was something small, but is easily done and that is getting to close to the microphone and getting dry mouthed. I heard in this podcast when it sounded like one of the kids was on the microphone and it kept making noises in the background, I will have to watch out for that. By getting dry mouthed I mean like talking so much where you start to mispronounce your words or where your words doesn't sound as clear anymore. Other than those simple changes, I think I will do well. I always learn something about podcasts because I have never dealt with them before this class, so I thank the kids for teaching me something.

EDM 310 classes

The videocast wasn't bad. They did try to make it conversational, but I do think that they could've made it better. It seemed conversational to a certain extent. I think that there should've been a dicussed topic rather than the professor askin questions as if they were in a classroom so to speak. When they were introducing themselves I feel that there should've been more eye contact during the introduction.
At the end of the videocast, I think that they should have ended it verbally, meaning thank the viewers for watching where they can see you rather than putting it in typing at the end. At some points it seemed as though they were trying to make it conversational rather than just letting it flow out. I will try to make these improvements in my podcasts/videocasts, although some may not be easy because some things are automatic habits, but I will try my best to do so.

Podcasts

What is a podcast? A podcast is a series of digital media files, either audio or video, that is released episodically through the web. You have to download itunes in order download or even listen to the podcasts. There are millions that are available, some may cost, but some are also free.
When I was listening to the podcasts, I notice that they were nothing but 2 or more people having a simple conversation as if they were recording themselves or trying to promote a what they were saying. They pretty much reminded me of listening or watching the news because they were conversing with each other on certain subjects and also giving the listeners information.
There are 2 different podcasts that I became familiar with, the video and the audio. I think that the video podcast was made with just a few home tools. It seemed like it required a video camera and a few friends or others just to produce it. I actually like the video podcast more than just the audio because you have a visual aid along with the audio.
On the other hand, the audio isn't that bad. It seems that most podcasters only create their podcasts by only using the audio technique. Some podcasts are short, but some are also long, which can get pretty boring by just listening especially if the people on the podcast are talking about something that doesn't interest you. Now that I know what a podcast is, I would like to know what its genuine purpose is.

Next Generation Learning

Technology is very popular now, but by the time the next generation learning graduates, they will be super literate when dealing with technology. All of these new devices make the next generation want to learn more. There eager to learn more because they are being exposed to more than just a pen/pencil and paper.
So as they learn how to work with technology, they are also learning how to use the tools within technology such as PowerPoint, Microsoft Word, etc. They are learning how to upload information as well as blogging or sending an e-mail. They are being more educated than ever before because of technology and I think it's great.

Vicki Davis: Harness Your Students' Digital Smarts

I'm not the biggest fan of technology, but I feel I know enough, although it's always good to learn more. When I first came to South, that's something that I realized..that I will be using technology more than I ever had. It's no problem because I feel that you should be computer literate, but I don't like using computers for everything.
One reason why I don't care for using computers while working with assignments is because anything can happen as far as submitting your work to your computer malfunctioning. I wouldn't mind using the computer for assignments sometimes, but using them all the time is definitely something I will have to get use to.

Sir Ken Robinson: The Importance of Creativity

Children that's graduating now will be retiring in 2065. Creativity is important, but in my opinion, I don't think it is as important as literacy. Lately there has been many teachers or professors that does want their students to be more original and creative. I can understand why since there are so many new ways to learn and to get educated, but I really don't think it's that big of a deal as he seems to make it.
I agree that in the next 30 years more people worldwide will be graduating through education in history. I also agree that college degrees are not meaning much during this economic time period. Even with a college degree in most areas, it's still hard to find a job. I believe that a degree in education will always be needed because education is always going to be a key factor in the world. The children are our future, therefore needing to be educated.

Did You Know? 3.0

Social life now is not just reduced to skating, surfing, or just bowling, there's a whole other world out there...the internet. Many people are now starting to communicate through facebook, myspace, twitter, and blogging. Although all of these are very similar, they also have there differences.
I know that all of these programs are worldwide, but I really didn't know that all of these were expanded for as far as Indonesia. It's said that we are living in exponential times. I knew that google was a big big company, but I didn't know that there are 31 billion searches on google every month, that's a lot!!! These numbers really surprised me, but it shows that the world is communicating in such a different way than it was about 10 years ago.

Kennavia King: About Me

My name is Kennavia King. I was born in Mobile, Al on September 2. I am the daughter of Farletha and Ken King, but not an only child. Kenterria King is my younger and only sibling. My status is currently a sophomore. I transferred from Alabama State University to the University of South Alabama at the end of July, so although I'm a sophomore, I feel more like a freshmen here since it's my first year. I enjoy sports. I played basketball all throughout high school for the exception of my senior year. I do not easily make friends, just for the simple fact that I don't trust very easy and that good friends are hard to find. God is the head of my life then my family follows.
